Daily Commute

Yesterday, Vijay Uncle took me on the route that I will take to work. We took an auto rickshaw which looks like it should only be going on minor roadways, but we were going at a fairly high speed on a highway-like road at one point. All I was thinking about was the movie Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, in which Madhuri Dixit's mother falls out of an auto and dies. Absurd moment in the movie, bad image to have in mind when actually in an auto. (In case it wasn't clear from my writing this post, we arrived quite safely and all was fine.)

Our directions to the office consisted of going to a nearby marketplace, and asking for better directions there. So we went to Bhogal Market, where we asked where Masjid Road was. That got several men pointing us in the right direction, but no indication which road to turn on. Road signs are a little lacking in India, but we managed to find our way to the office without too much trouble (though I'm fairly certain our auto driver wanted to throw us out on the nearest corner). The office address was slightly misleading in that it was "576", which apparently actually meant "57.6" or "57-6" or some such variation. It was Sunday, so no one was in the office, but there was a very helpful watchman who was kind enough to tell us the nearest bus stops and which lines would take me closest to the Madan home.

Which led us to our route back from the office - via actual rickshaw and then bus. This was a much more... precarious route, and I think I can safely say that I am spoiled enough that I will be taking an auto to work, at least for the first few weeks.

First day of work on Wednesday! Super excited.

I'm alive!

And well, in the motherland. Haven't done much other than sleep and eat, so not much to update. Will hopefully have some Delhi adventures in the near future to report!
